What is my absolute favorite part of having a photography studio??
MY WINDOWS!
When I first began my professional photography journey in Jacksonville, I had no idea just how lucky I was….and the reason is: not all light is created equal. Not only are the windows in my studio about 8 feet tall, but they are also north facing, which means that we get the prettiest light when we are creating your most precious memories.
This image of baby Keira and her mama is one of my favorite poses, and the reason that I love it so much is because it incorporates those beautiful windows, and bathes mama and baby in the most radiant natural light. The windows also provide the perfect backdrop for creating dramatic black and white silhouettes.

Sound familiar? If you have children, you’ve probably heard this information somewhere along the way: newborns don’t genuinely smile, and those adorable little smirks are actually just muscle reflexes or gas pains.
BUT, I’ve been photographing newborns for over five years now and there always seems to be a trend during my sessions…newborn babies often smile when they’re being held by their parents or siblings. I don’t always notice it at the time, but later, when I’m sitting at my computer editing and I look closer, there it is: a sweet sleepy grin.
So, I personally like to think that babies hear those familiar voices, they’re comforted by their family’s loving arms, and the result is that heartwarming little smile.When baby Blair smiled up at her mommy and daddy during her newborn session, my heart literally melted and I was again reminded about how grateful I am to be able to capture memories like this for so many families! Babies grow and change quickly, so being able to freeze precious little moments like this is absolutely priceless and I know Blair’s family will cherish this beautiful image for many years to come.

“rainbow baby:”
a healthy baby born after losing a baby due to miscarriage, infant loss, stillbirth, or neonatal death; the term comes from the idea of a rainbow appearing in the sky after a storm, or after a dark, turbulent time
I truly believe that all babies are special; my college background is in biology (I originally wanted to be a veterinarian when I was younger), so I know that from a scientific viewpoint, as well as that of a mother, they are nothing short of little miracles. But, rainbow babies will always hold a special place in my heart.

What is “baby-led” newborn photography?
Simply put, baby-led photography means: your baby is the boss!
When I photograph a newborn, I want the session to be a comfortable, relaxed experience for everyone involved, so I will NEVER try to force your baby into a pose that he or she is not comfortable with. I go into each session with a game plan and a vision of what I would like to capture, but at the end of the day I will always follow YOUR baby’s lead. Each baby is unique, and not every little one likes being swaddled, or laying on their tummy, or being on their back; some feel safer all curled up and bundled, and some babies just want to stretch out. My ultimate goal is to document your baby in a simple, pure, and natural style.
